Our History

Hillsborough Little League (HLL) was founded in 1993 and has steadily become one of the great community pillars of Hillsborough and adjacent areas of San Mateo, Burlingame and Millbrae. Today, roughly 600 kids between the ages of 5 and 14 participate in HLL's seven divisions: T-Ball, A, AA, AAA, Minors and Majors Baseball as well 54/80. Our teams play on Hillsborough school fields as well as town parks. Community support, parental involvement and our great kids have helped HLL build a first-class Little League and several championship teams.

Prior to 1993, Hillsborough children played in the Burlingame-Hillsborough Little League, which used fields in Burlingame. In 1992, Burlingame left the league to start a Burlingame-specific Rec League, the current BYBA, Burlingame Youth Baseball Association.

At that time, Hillsborough parents came together to form a Board of Directors and chartered a new Hillsborough Little League, which began play in 1993 on fields at Hillsborough's elementary and middle schools. With great interest, commitment and cooperation between Hillsborough parents, the Hillsborough School District, the Town of Hillsborough and the Hillsborough Recreation Department, Hillsborough Little League has expanded substantially. Its size and sophistication now includes batting cages, scoreboards, stands and portable backstops wherever possible.

In 2002, HLL formalized its boundaries to include San Mateo Park and the west side of Burlingame (west of El Camino Real). Having a small population base of 11,000 residents in Hillsborough, HLL must reach out to neighboring areas in order to field teams in each age group. In 2008, HLL added the town of Millbrae at parents' requests.

HLL plays in District 52, which includes 17 Little Leagues ranging from Pacifica in the north to Palo Alto in the south. Since 2001, HLL has developed a regional success story in Little League tournament play. HLL has won 20 District and Sectional titles in the past 10 years, 17 of which have come in the last seven years. HLL has also won three Section 3 titles, and our 2007 11-year-old All-Star Team reached the Northern California (NorCal) Championship Game.

In 2009, HLL enjoyed the best All-Star performance in District 52 history (at that time), with three District All-Star Teams (10's, 11's and 12's) advancing to the championship games. The 12's won District 52 titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In 2015, HLL's 9-10s won both D52 and Section 3, advancing to the Northern California (NorCal) State Championship tournament.

In 2017, HLL had a "Banner Season" to remember, winning a total of 6 Banners from D52 and Section 3.  The 50-70 team of 13 year olds won both the D52 regular season championship and season ending tournament.  The 9-10 and 10-11 All-Star teams both won the D52 and Section 3 tournaments, with both advancing to the NorCal tournament. Both teams made it to the Championship game of the NorCal tournament.

In 2018, our 11-12 All-Star team won the last game of the season, bringing home HLL's first-ever Northern California State Championship.  Along the way they went 12-1, outscoring their opponents 102-19, and ultimately took top honors from among 340 other Little League teams in 31 Districts and 7 NorCal sections!

We're proud of our history providing a fun and rewarding Little League experience for local boys and girls and in building championship teams. Most importantly, we're proud of our Little Leaguers, who through this experience have come to appreciate excellence, teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment.

As we like to say in HLL, "It's all about the kids."
